Maaran is the latest Tamil film which has officially released on DisneyPlus Hotstar on March 11, 2022 at around 5 pm in the evening. The screen time of this crime thriller drama movie is around 2 hours 10 minutes.
Story: The story of this film revolves around Dhanush as Mathimaaaran aka Maaran who is a journalist believe in giving only positive news to the readers. Even, Maaran’s father was a journalist and got killed for his truth based investigative stories. Even, Maaran follows the same path of this father and he too has a lot to loose in this journey of truthful journalism. Here Maaran tries to expose an ex-minister Samuthirakani aka Pazhani over election voting machine scam. Despite multiple threat by Pazhani, Maaran stays on the path of truth. Will, Maaran able to expose the wrong doings of the ex-minister is what this story is all about.

This film also stars Smruthi Venkat aka Shwetha who is Maaran sister here. Malavika Mohanan aka Thara is the leading lady here and also a journalist. Ramki, Jayaprakash, Aadukalam Naren, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Bose Venkat, Mahendran, Ameer, Jeeva Ravi and many others in key roles.
The early reviews of Maaran movie is out now and they are in a range of 2 to 2.5 stars out of 5 stars. Maaran movie holds 5 stars ratings out of 10 stars on IMDB.
Bollywood Crazies Opinion: The major drawback of this film is its predictable and soul less story. The performance were not up to the mark which makes this movie a dull affair to watch. There is no thrill in the screenplay and the performances even look like they are not ready for it. The only scene that shocked me to the core is the scene before interval when Maaran sister is being kidnapped. Dhanush has given brilliant films in past but this film disappoints me to the core. I think the problem is not its story but its weak presentation without much entertainment for the audience. This is much worse than his last OTT flick Jagame Thandhiram (2021). Dhanush, who has given a brilliant performance in Asuran (2019), must choose his films with care or he will end up hurting his die hard fans. In terms of acting, Dhanush disappoints us as a journalist in this film. None of the things have worked for me except the beautiful relation between Maaran and his sister Shwetha. The editing is just ok and the cinematography is also passable. The production value of this film is decent but it could have been better. The makers could have made this story a worth watch if it had presented with good writing and applause worthy dialogues.
Karthick Naren have done screenplay, writing and direction of this film. This film has been produced by T G Thyagarajan. The cinematography has been done by Vivekanand Santhosham and the editing work handled by Prasanna G K. The musical score has been given by G V Prakash Kumar.
Maaran movie budget hasn’t been revealed here but it could reportedly being around 28 to 30 crores maximum.
Altogether, Maaran is not even for a one time watch and it could have been a big disaster if it had released in Cinema theaters.
Last Word: Only watch it for Dhanush or skip it for something better.
