Story: The story of this film revolves around most elusive criminal Sukumara Kurup played by Dulquer Salmaan (Gopikrishnan Pillai), who faked his own death in 1984 for an insurance money of 8 lakhs and since then is absconding. He chalked out a plan with the help of three of his men for his fake death. The three of them killed a man and later presented it that it is a dead body of Sukumara. Well, police did solve the crime but didn’t able to nab the inglorious sharp minded Kurup since 1984. Here Indrajith Sukumaran essays the role of deputy superintendent of police Krishnadas, who failed to nab the mastermind Kurup in his life. This film also stars Sobhita Dhulipala aka Sharada Kurup (Kurup’s love interest), Shine Tom Chacko, Sunny Wayne, Bharath Srinivasan, Tovino Thomas, Vijayaraghavan and many others.

Bollywood Crazies Opinion: First of all, it’s good to see Malayalam Cinema making such a big historical film with a big budget. I am impressed by the overall scale of this film and its production value. The movie stars well in 2005 where a inspector starts reading the report file of Kurup and that’s how the story begins by showcasing his journey from 1966 to 1984. The movie starts well but in the mid the pace is slow and the movie starts lagging. The intensity of this film lost and the film fails to excite in the mid. The screenplay is the biggest culprit here, the makers could have cut shorted this film’s length for another 20 minutes, would have been worked for this movie. Dalquer aka Kurup role was impressive from start to end. Sobhita Dhulipala and Indrajith Sukumaran did gave decent support to the protagonist. The background music is good and even the cinematography is brilliant. My favourite scenes were of Bombay in the 70’s that has been showed in this film. The story is emotionally weak and that’s where this film lacks. In short, it’s classy, massy but not emotionally strong.

The movie has been directed by Srinath Rajendran. It has been written by Jithin k Jose. The screenplay and dialogues were written by K S Aravind and Daniell Sayooj Nair. This movie have been produced by Wayfarer Films
and M Star Entertainments. The cinematography work has been done by Nimish Ravi and the editing work handled by Vivek Harshan. The musical score has been given by Sushin Shyam.

Kurup movie budget has been reportedly around 30 crores, which is huge amount in Malayalam cinema.

Altogether, Kurup is one of those historical films that didn’t worked out for critics but it would definitely being loved by masses.

Last Word: Watch it for Dulquer Salmaan performance and its historical production design.

Bollywood Crazies Ratings: Kurup Movie Review- Distinction (70 percent out of 100).
