Western Cine Employees Calls Strike From August 15, 40 TV Serials Shoots Get Affected

One of the premier body of Television Industry is Western Cine Employees, which has around 2.5 lakhs employees. At the latest, they have decided to go for an indefinite strike as their demands have not been accepted by Producers and Federation from last 2 years. This will hamper over 40 TV Serials Shoots from August 15, 2017.

In 2015, Western Cine Employees went on a strike for over a week. In that particular phase, there were no serials running on the Television. Instead, the makers were showing the old episodes during that time. The Same thing is about to happen again as Western Cine Employees calls strike due to the unfulfillment of their demands.

Taking about the same The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) President Birendra Nath Tiwari said, “It has been two years but none of our demands have been fulfilled. We have not demanded anything more, the demands are just the same as made in the year 2015. We don’t have any problem with film (producers) but there is exploitation in television.”

The two major demands by Western Cine Employees are salary increment and eight-hour shift. Birendra Nath Tiwari added, “We are fed of the producers, they just want to earn money themselves and don’t want to think about the workers. We met them last month but there has been no positive response from them, so we have decided to go on a strike. There is an issue of sanitation, there are no proper toilets for men, its a matter of concern for women. The people work for 20 hours a day, we demand an eight hour shift for them. A workers health and safety is our top priority, so we demand for their safety and insurance.”

Most of the employees are from Mumbai and the shoots which will be affected are Mumbai’s Film City, Future Studio, Filmistan Studio, Click Nickson, Cinevista Studio and Madh Island, Mira Road and Naigaon locations.

Altogether, these strike from Western Cine Employees will cost crores of loss to the Indian Television Industry.
