At first, it took a day for me to remember the name of this film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Yes, it is not a normal name but it is very apt to this movie. I heard about this film 3 months back but didn’t search much about. Well, after it won four Golden Globes Awards recently, I had no option to better search for this film.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won 75th Golden Globe awards for Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Actress Drama, Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay. It also won People’s Choice Awards at Toronto International Film Festival 2017. That’s enough to tell you all that this film will win most of the awards in the Oscars too.

Comeback to the review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, it is an emotional-heartbreaking movie. The pain of the lead actress Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) is unbearable in this film as her daughter was burned and raped. Even after 8 Months, there was no information about the wrongdoers and that’s when she decides to come up with a 3 billboards Idea. She put three banners on these three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. On the first billboard, she wrote, ‘RAPED WHILE DYING’. The second billboard is written as ‘AND STILL NO ARRESTS?’ and their third billboard message was ‘HOW COME, CHIEF WILLOUGHBY?’.
In the third billboard, the message includes a name of Sheriff Bill Willoughby (Woody Harrelson). As the billboard wasn’t against the law and no one could do anything including the police. She paid a hefty money to the Billboard advertising company so that her banner on the billboard remains there for a year at least. Even Woody has delivered a powerful performance in this film. The moment he shot himself is what breaks my heart down and then a long written emotional letter to her wife.
Well, there is also another character in this movie, that has stolen the show, Officer Jason Dixon (Sam Rockwell). At first, I didn’t like his character in this film but after the death of Sheriff Bill Willoughby due to cancer, he got one letter. In which, Sheriff reminds Jason that he is a good person. Soon after that, Jason got a clue about the culprits of Mildred Hayes’ daughter rape case. The ending of this film is really beautiful so I won’t at all spoil it here.
The camerawork by Ben Davis is influential along with the direction and writing work by Martin McDonagh. It was released on November 10, 2017, in the USA. It will be releasing in India on February 16, 2018.
Altogether, This movie proudly deserves 5 stars out of 5. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri movie will remain in my heart for a long time.
