Sam Bahadur is the latest film released on December 1, 2023 based on the life of former Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw who played a pivotal role in Indian Army winning war against in intruders. The screen time of this biopic drama film is around 2 hours 30 minutes and it has got UA Certificate by Indian Censor Board.
Story: The story starts before Independence in the 1930s and how India got its freedom against Britishers. The story also focuses on India Vs Pakistan partition in a brief way. The movie also puts highlight on Kashmir issue since India’s Independence. The movie ends showing the battle of East Pakistan turning Bangladesh due to the help of Indian Army. The makers has shown these above issues through the lenses of Vicky Kaushal aka Sam Bahadur. Not to forget, the film also focuses on Sam Bahadur and Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (Fatima Sana Shaikh) professional bonding for solving various issues related to India. This film also features Sanya Malhotra aka Silloo Manekshaw, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub aka Yahya Khan, Neeraj Kabi aka Jawaharlal Nehru and many others.
Bollywood Crazies Opinion: The movie has made with a big heart and huge production value. The story is good and has been show in the best possible way through engaging screenplay. The first half is rock sold and takes the film to next level. The second half is a bit slow and didn’t get the elevation it needed after first half. Talking about the performances Vicky Kaushal steal the show and I couldn’t take my eyes away from him. He has done one of the best roles in Bollywood. I particularly feel that Fatima didn’t lived up to her role and she could have created more impact. Still, nice try by Fatima as PM Indira Gandhi. Neeraj Kabi was excellent in his brief role. Even, Sanya had small but impactful role in the film. I also feel that Mr. Zeeshan is under utilized in the film. By this film, I again feel that Meghna Gulzar is a director to stay for long in Bollywood like Gulzar Saab. The director has done a lot of research here and that’s why the story looks meaningful. The second half had some loopholes, still I feel audience will go and watch this film with the family. The action sequences were good and thanks that VFX was almost avoided in this film. This is not a Shershaah film for sure but surely you can watch it once in theaters. There are hardly 2 songs that is ok and good to listen. The production work is flawless as I find good detailing in it. Even small scenes has been shot by taking extra care, which is good. As a cinema lover, Sam Bahadur is one such film that you must watch only in theaters. I am not sure how audience will perceive this film but definitely Vicky will win lot of accolades and awards for this particular role. The cinematography is so good that it pleases your eyes and mind throughout. Making a historical film is a big task and yes Meghna Gulzar has done the mastery in the art of filmmaking. Despite some flaws and issues in the film, I am in awe of Meghna the director. The editing is good as its not felt lengthy and boring.
The movie is being helmed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. It have been written by Bhavani Iyer, Shantanu Shrivastava, and Meghna Gulzar. The cinematography has been done by Jay I Patel and the musical score given by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The background score is good by Ketan Sodha.
Sam Bahadur movie budget is reportedly is 68 to 70 crores maximum and I feel the movie has a chance to work well at the box office despite its big clash with Animal movie.
Altogether, Sam Bahadur is a well made biopic and must watch for everyone in theaters.
Last Word: Watch it for Vicky Kaushal as he gives a perfect tribute to former Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
Bollywood Crazies Ratings: Sam Bahadur Review- (3.5 out of 5 stars).
