One of the most awaited web series of Amazon Prime, Utopia has finally released on September 25, 2020. This webseries had 8 episodes with each having a screen time between 48 to 50 minutes. In short, you have to spend over 7 hours to watch the first season of Utopia.

I know, you have heard of Utopia back in 2013. As it is a United Kingdom based television series released between 2013 and 2014 on Channel 4. It had two seasons consisting of a total 12 episodes. Later, this television series was expected to be remade for American audience in 2014. Well, it didn’t materialised back than Amazon Prime has bought the remake rights in 2018 for making an American version. The shooting of Utopia has been started and ended in 2019 itself and finally it released in September 2020.
Utopia series has been created by Dennis Kelly and its new version has been directed by Gillian Flynn. This web series has been produced by Amazon Studios, Endemol Shine North America, Kudos, Picrow, Trallume Productions.
Utopia web series starts Sasha Lane as Jessica Hyde, John Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie, Rainn Wilson as Michael Stearns, Dan Byrd as Ian Ackerman, Ashleigh LaThrop as Becky Todd, Desmin Borges as Wilson Wilson, Christopher Denham as Arby and many others.
It is not a new story for UK or American audience but it is definitely new for South Asian and especially Indian audiences. Utopia has been well made by the makers and it will keep you at the edge of your seats. It is a bit dark and gory but still you will find it interesting. This webseries also stars two kids and I am shocked when the small girl Alice holds the chopped finger of Dr. Christie in the last episode. I know it’s a bit of spoiler I revealed still it has a lot of thing that you make you engage.
The story of this series is, Jessica Hyde is in search of Utopia (which is liked a drawing book consisting of various photos with coded messages and demonic pictures), and she wants that to find a clue of her father’s whereabouts. Will Jessica Hyde able to find her father and reach her home is what the story follows. The villain in this series is Mr. Rabbit and who is that person, you have to find out by watching it.
Utopia has received 6.2 stars out of 10 on IMDB. It got 59 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It got a rating of 3 to 3.5 stars out of 5 in average from various critics
The screenplay look abit tedious in few of mid episodes but overall Utopia has been well made. The violence showed in this webseries seems a bit too much. It is definitely not a series for kids but for adults. The use of kids in few of violence scenes will not being liked by many parents.
The budget of Utopia webseries hasn’t been revealed by the makers but it would be reportedly over 200 crores minimum. The early response for Utopia is a decent one and in this way it would be considered as an above average series.
