Story: The story of this film revolves around J. D. Chakravarthy aka Satya who comes to Mumbai city with a big dream. Sooner, we see that he had a fight with local gangster who sent him into jail on fake charges. In Jail, we see Satya had a fight with Manoj Bajpayee aka Bhiku Mhatre, who is also a local don. This fight made Bhiku realizes that Satya is not a normal person and it would be beneficial if latter works with him. Satya changes Bhiku in many ways and gained his trust. On the other hand, Bhiku teaches Satya about his underworld life and crimes. Apart from that, we see that Satya is also fallen in love with Urmila Matondkar aka Vidya, who lives next to his residence. In the movie, we can see that Satya and Vidya fall in love but he didn’t told her about his real work. We can also see, Shefali Shah aka Pyari Mhatre doesn’t want her husband Bhiku to work in this crime world. What happens next forms the rest of the story? Will Bhiku able to rule Mumbai? Will Satya get his love! All these things will be answered in the movie.

Apart from that, Saurabh Shukla essayed the iconic role Kallu Mama, Snehal Dabi aka Chander, Govind Namdev aka Bhau, Paresh Rawal aka New Police Commissioner of Mumbai Amod Shukla, Jeeva aka Jagga Hyderabadi, Makarand Deshpande, Aditya Srivastava and many others.

This film currently holds 8.3 ratings out of 10 on Bookmyshow and it also holds 90% ratings out of 100 on Rottentomatoes.com website.

Bollywood Crazies Opinion: The story is so powerful that you will sit and binge watch whole movie in on go. Even the performances makes this story much more believable. Apart from that, the real locations of Mumbai, especially South Mumbai gives this film a perfect backdrop to tell the Underworld story of 90s era. The screenplay is unconventional and you really don’t know what will happen next. There is full chaos shown in the movie about Gang wars and how Police is behind the mafia people. Each character has its own story and problems. Mainly, the film shows through the eyes of Satya and Bhiku. Both have equal screen time in the film and they shined. Bhiku is great and for that Manoj has also went on to win National Film Award for best supporting actor. But, you can’t ignore an amazing performance by J D. I even think, Shefali and Urmila have given their best. Another character that shine for me in Kallu Mama, he lived the role like no one else. The film budget was low and despite of that, the makers have achieved a milestone by creating a raw cinema which wasn’t explored in Bollywood industry before. The production value is incredible in this movie and I am sure every shot is real and picturized on a real location. My favourite scene of Satya is difficult to judge but when Satya goes to kill bhau on Ganpati Visarjan is something that I really liked. It was’t an easy film to make but it is a passion that made this movie possible. This film have given a career boost to many especially Manoj Bajpayee. There are few songs in this film which I feel is completely ok and make this film a bit balance between romance and crime. I personally feel that it is must watch film for all the budding filmmakers to learn the craft by seeing this cult film Satya. For me both songs Sapne Mein Milti Hai And Kallu Mama will always be audience favourite. Even after 25 years, I feel that the class work by Ram Gopal Varma in this film will remain his best.

Satya movie has been produced and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It have been written by Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap. The cinematography have been done by Gerard Hooper and Mazhar Kamran. The editing work have been handled by Apurva Asrani and Bhanodaya. The musical score has been given by Sandeep Chowta and music is by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Satya movie has been made with meagre budget of 2.5 crores and turns out to be one of the biggest grossers of 1998 by collection reportedly over 15 crores gross worldwide.

Last Word: Watch it for every thing as this is one of the Best path-breaking Indian cinema.
