Abhay Deol has took a serious entry in the web series world and his latest JL50 has released on September 4, 2020 on Sony Liv OTT platform. The good thing about this JL50 miniseries is, it has just 4 episodes with a screen time of 2 hours 19 minutes.
The story of JL50 is one of its kind as it is based on time travel story. The audience have already seen series like Stranger Things and Dark in the past, which also based on time travel concept. This is for the first time, this kind of subject has been properly executed for a web series.
The makers have did a great casting for JL50 web series starring Abhay Deol as a CBI officer, Pankaj Kapur as Phyics professor, Piyush Mishra as scientist, Ritika Anand as pilot in key roles.
The story says that a plane JL50 which took off in 1984 has disappeared and it crashed in 2019, that too a week ago. Where was the plane got 35 years? This is what Abhay Deol has to solve out as a puzzle. The makers didn’t show much VFX as expected but they have explained about time travel and warm hole in an easy way.
JL50 has been written, co-edited and directed by Shailender Vyas. The screenplay at some point makes the story a bit boring in the middle but the web series ended on a good note. It cinematographer of this web series is Bradley Stuckel, and the music has been rendered by Aseem Trivedi.
The makers didn’t revealed the actual budget of this web series. But it would have been made with a budget reportedly around 12 to 15 crores, all thanks to recreating 80’s era in the film. The team must be in the profitable side and they would have recovered its budget from the OTT platform.
The early response from critics is not so good. JL50 web series had received rating in a range of 2.5 to 3 stars out of 5. The early response from audience is good and the interesting subject will attract more audience to watch it.
Altogether, JL50 web series would have been termed as an above average in terms of earning. Still, it is a good web series in time travel category in SciFi section.
