Coolie No. 1 is the latest release film on OTT platform Amazon Prime on December 25, 2020. The screentime of this film is around 2 hours 14 minutes. Coolie No. 1 is the official remake of the original film of the same name starring Govinda and Karishma Kapoor released in 1995.
From start to end of Coolie No. 1 featuring Varun Dhawan will remind you of Govinda. Including, there are some similar dialogues that are used in the original film used in this remake one.
Well, you all know the story really well. Still, the story is like a Varun Dhawan aka Raju Coolie likes a rich girl Sara Ali Khan aka Sarah. Well, there is Javeed Jaffery aka Jai Kishen aka Jackson who reprised the same role played by Sadashiv Amrapurkar as Pandit Shadiram Gharjode. Well, Jai Kishen was insulted by Sarah’s father Paresh Rawal aka Jeffery Rozario that he need only rich guys for his daughters marriage. Getting insulted by Jeffery, Jai Kishen decides to teach him a lesson. What comes later is hilarious and funny too.
The good thing about this movie is David Dhawan and it is his 45th film. It is being written by Farhad Samji, whom you can notice as a plumber in this movie. The screenplay has been done by Rumi Jaffrey. The musical score has been given by Salim-Sulaiman. The only song I liked is ‘Maine To Raaste Se’. The cinematography has been done by Ravi K. Chandran.
The early reviews of Coolie No. 1 is out now and it has been rated in a range of 2 to 2.5 stars out of 5.
The budget of Coolie No. 1 hasn’t been revealed yet but it would be reportedly over 50 to 60 crores. Interestingly, this film released on OTT or it would be a big dud in theaters at current scenario.
Bollywood Crazies Opinion: I realised now that there is a shortage of stories in Bollywood, that’s why makers are turning up for remakes. This remake has been made with whole heart but it lacks its soul. Throughout the whole movie, I really missed Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, late Kader Khan and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. This film is not even 5 percent of the original film.
Altogether, Coolie No. 1 is a good attempt to make us laugh again but it didn’t succeed in it.
Last word: Better watch Coolie No. 1 (1995) twice. Just watch this one to know how to destroy the legacy of an original film. I rest my case here!
Bollywood Crazies Ratings: Coolie No. 1 Review- Fail (30 percent out of 100).
