Borat got released in 2006 and turned out to be one of the biggest comedy mockumentary film starring Sacha Baron Cohen as Kazakh Journalist Borat Margaret Sagdiyev. It was also one of the highest rated comedy film back then. At the latest, director Jason Woliner has filmed Borat 2 aka Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. This time, not only Borat but her daughter Tutar Sagdiyev aka Maria Bakalova also stole the show. So the story is like, Kazakhstan government want Borat to go to USA once again and give a money as a gift to USA government to improve relations between two countries. Will Borat able to deliver a gift and what mess his daughter create is the story to follow in the movie. This mockumentray not only talks about American culture but also about the current government in power.
Borat 2 has a screentime of 96 minutes which is an apt for this movie. The shacking camera angles, the weird characters and scrappy dialogues gives much need laughter in this Covid-19 situation.
This film did invite controversies related to inclusion of Holocaust survivors and Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani scenes in this film. This film also takes about coronavirus and their relation to China. Altogether, its a strong film presented in a funny way to movie lovers.
The early response from the critics is really good and they rated this film in a range of 3 to 3.5 stars out of 5. It got 7.1 stars rating out of 5 on IMDB. It received 84 percent fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and 68 percent score out of 100 on Metacritic website.
The good thing about this film is, it makes a serious matter into a funny one. There seems no sense in this film but ultimately its a serious issue based film. There is a scene where Borat ask few of his friends, what is more dangerous Corona or Democrat? his friends say Democrat. There is a scene in this film where Borat enters in a political event disguise himself as Donald Trump. So, it’s a powerful movie that is too blunt to the audience. Hope, this kind of film ever be made in India!
The cinematography work has been done by Luke Geissbuhler, whose shots were shacky and real. The music of this film has been rendered by Erran Baron Cohen. This film has been produced by Four By Two Films and Oak Springs Productions.
The budget of Borat 2 hasn’t been revealed officially by the makers but it would be reportedly over 150 to 170 Crores. All we can say that Borat 2 is definitely a big hit in online space by looking at the response of critics and audience.
