The story is revolved around a classical singer Aditya Modak aka Sharad Nerulkar who wants to make it big in classical music. He learns classical music from his guruji aka Arun Dravid. His guruji often teaches him to become a good singer but Sharad couldn’t able to sign well. Despite giving several years into learning music, Sharad couldn’t able to concentrate on it. Unlike others who are doing job or have married, our main protagonist Sharad is still unmarried at the age of 36. His focus was only on music but still he wasn’t satisfied from himself. After giving half of his life for music since childhood, Sharad couldn’t able to get the perfection he needed to be a great classical singer. Will, Sharad able to be a great singer or will he leave his dream is what you need to watch here.

The Disciple movie holds 91 percent ratings on RottenTomatoes and 7.1 stars ratings on IMDB. Majorly film critics have rated this film in a range of 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Bollywood Crazies Opinion: Chaitanya already have left a strong impact on me since his debut Court. I was shocked by watching Court and still that film haunt me in dreams. Yes, that was so realistic and literally taunting on Indian law system. Well, coming to The Disciple, again Chaitanya surprised us with his clever direction, writing and editing. The long shots have worked for me, especially when the protagonist goes on a ride in night. The cinematographer has holded the camera so gently that you feel it in all his frames. The screenplay did give a depth to the story, which it was needed. The restless mind of Sharad has been captured well in most of the frames. Sharad’s anger can be easily seen through his life. Even in the end, when Sharad changes his path from music, he still wasn’t happy and that’s what the film cleared it. The divinity and reality in the visuals of Chaitanya’s films have always remind me of Satyajit Ray movies. Though, we all know, there is no comparison to Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak movies. I feel, Chaitanya is the future of Indian Cinema for good.

The Disciple movie written, edited and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane. The cinematography work has been done by Michal Sobocinski and you did it great. The music has been given by Aneesh Pradhan. The movie has been produced by Vivek Gomber. Alfonso Cuaron was the executive producer of this film. This film also won Best Screenplay award at Venice Film Festival including FIPRESCI International Critics Price.

The Disciple movie budget hasn’t been revealed but it would reportedly be in 4 to 5 crores maximum.

Altogether, The Disciple is a great cinema from India and Chaitanya Tamhane movies are like a lesson to the budding filmmakers.

Last word: Watch it for everything, if you are a fan of great cinema. Sharad Nerulkar story is completely for you.

Bollywood Crazies Ratings: The Disciple Review- Outstanding (100 percent out of 100).
