Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi starrer Cargo movie released on Netflix on September 9, 2020. It is one of the most unique films made from India. This film also stars Konkana Sen Sharma in a cameo role.
By looking at the scale of this film, Cargo movie has been made reportedly with a budget of 8 to 10 crores, as it has lot of VFX work. This movie must have been sold to Netflix on a decent price and the makers must be in the profitable side. The early response of this film is really good from critics as it has got rating between 3 to 3.5 stars out of 5.
It is one of the rare space based film from India that will not only talk about after life but also the feeling of loneliness in this materialistic empty world. The main protagonist Vikrant aka Prahastha spent almost 75 years in a spaceship and his life totally changed when a new recruit Shweta aka Yuvishka Shekhar joins him. They both work in Post Death Transition Services whose work is to heal the deal people, erase their memory, and return them back for a new life in earth. They both stationed in a space ship named as Pushpak 634A.
Cargo movie has been beautifully written and directed by Arati Kadav who deserves an applause from all the film aficionados. The VFX of Cargo has been done by Zenish Mehta, who did commendable work. Cargo movie has been produced by Arati, Navin Shetty, Shlok Sharma and Anurag Kashyap. The cinematography is beautifully done by Kaushal Shah.
The screen time of Cargo movie is around 1 hour 53 minutes which is an apt one. The movie seems a lot slow from the start but sooner you get deep into the film, as if this happening around you. This movie will give you lot of story and learning. It is a well made film with some beautiful shots and audience will definitely love it. Cargo wasn’t promoted heavily, so it will talk for the audience to reach out for this masterpiece.
What if Cargo movie had released in theaters? In that scenario, this film would have been one of the biggest flops despite good reviews. In short, cinema going audience in India don’t go to watch movie for its story content, they need big stars and sometime bigger entertainment.
Last word: watch it without thinking anything else as it is a wonderfully new project. Watch it for Vikrant Massey and you will like his character for sure. The only drawback of this film is, its screenplay which will too slow but interesting.
