Why Sultan Movie Flopped In China?

Despite getting 9.3 stars rating on Maoyan.com, Sultan movie couldn’t able to lure audience in China. It was released in China with Chinese subtitle but fails to leave any mark on the audience. Sultan, which is on 9th day in China, ranks on 14th position with just over 3000 shows. The question is what went wrong with Sultan in China?

Indian audience and Chinese audience taste are very similar but still the former one are more intellectual and realistic. In India, we still follow the Stars, Hero or Heroine Phenomena but in China content is the Hero or star. In terms of Sultan, it is not too realistic as like Dangal, which turned out to be a major reason why this film performed low. Even, Chinese audience seen Dangal first and they couldn’t digest Sultan after that, whose theme is similar but still approach is different.

Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan was has more universal appeal than Sultan. Thats why Kabir Khan’s directorial film earned 296 crores in China but Sultan struggling around 33 crores.

Surprisingly, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hindi Medium, Secret Superstar and Dangal have one thing common, which is child actor. They did helped the movie to become a hit in Chinese market. On the other hand, Sultan didn’t have any child actor with a pivotal role.

Even, Baahubali 2 and Toilet Ek Prem Katha performed under 100 Crores, which means that they are more interested in watching realistic story than an inspired one or with fictional content.

Altogether, Bollywood films needs to learn the basic and give more focus on story rather than big stars. Ultimately, Sultan was a good film but there were other better options for Chinese audience to watch in Cinemas.
