Phantom Thread Review

Paul Thomas Anderson’s directorial film Phantom Thread is yet another majestic film or the yesteryears. I have seen this film a week before and the memories of this film are still intact in my mind. After watching this film, I got to know that Paul is an incredibly talented director. And then I decided to watch his last work too with Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (2007). I got to say that, he is a gem of a director and so thus Mr. Daniel.

Come back to the topic, Phantom Thread set in the 50’s era and talks about the life of Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis), who creates dresses and garments for high society people. He does most of his work with her sister Cyril Woodcock (Lesley Manville). One day, Reynolds fall in love with a young girl Alma Elson from a restaurant, whose role was played by Vicky Krieps. Reynolds and Alma are poles apart but still, they somehow fall for each other and married. Still, things were not ok between the two and that follows the whole story.

It is a well-crafted film by Paul and Daniel gives one of his best ever performance. I equally loved the performance of Cyril and Alma, who were always around him in this film. The artistic work by Cinematographer is worth applauding. This film was written by Paul himself and the music was rendered by Jonny Greenwood.

Recently, this film got 6 nominations for 90th Academy Awards. Before that, this film got nominated for two Golden Globe Nominations and three BAFTA nominations.

Altogether, Phantom Thread is a treat to the audience, who loves classic film of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s era.

My Rating: 4 Stars Out Of 5 Stars.
